FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Poised to add 100 jobs statewide, City Furniture today announced plans to expand its Central Florida operations by opening two showrooms in November at The Villages, the fast-growing active adult community.
“The opportunity to quickly and cost effectively open stores within The Villages gives us an ideal platform to better serve our Central Florida customers”
“The opportunity to quickly and cost effectively open stores within The Villages gives us an ideal platform to better serve our Central Florida customers,” said City Furniture President Keith Koenig. His firm signed leases with The Villages’ developer enabling City Furniture to renovate and merchandise two furniture stores currently owned and operated by a developer affiliated company.
Koenig said opening stores at The Villages is a key step in City Furniture’s strategic direction of expanding statewide. “We’re confident in the long-term strength of Florida’s markets, and we’ve scaled our infrastructure accordingly,” he explained. “Rolling out e-commerce this year has really boosted our deliveries to the Orlando and Tampa areas. Residents at The Villages have shopped at our South Florida stores, so we’re already making deliveries in that market.” The move extends City Furniture’s footprint from Miami-Dade through Lake, Sumter and Marion counties.
City Furniture will create stores in space now occupied by Southern Lifestyles at Lake Sumter Landing and Showcase Direct at La Plaza Grande shopping center, which serve more than 90,000 residents of The Villages community plus consumers from Orlando to Ocala and Gainesville. City Furniture plans to open the La Plaza Grande store by mid-November and the second store soon after, and is filling a total of 52 sales and support positions for the stores.
City Furniture is also completing a five-store South Florida expansion/renovation program. As southeast and southwest Florida licensee for Ashley Furniture HomeStore, City Furniture has reshaped its showroom network, with both brands in adjoining stores at many locations. An upscale, environmentally friendly City Furniture showroom will open in Cutler Bay in October. On an adjoining site, the firm has operated a City Furniture store, to be renovated as an Ashley Furniture HomeStore, opening April 2014. Koenig plans a total of 35 new sales and support jobs for the two Cutler Bay stores.
One of the nation’s Top 100 furniture retailers according to Furniture Today magazine, City Furniture currently operates 24 furniture stores, including 10 Ashley Furniture HomeStore showrooms. For information visit www.cityfurniture.com.
