WALTHAM, Mass. & PERTH, Australia--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Global Advanced Metals Pty Ltd (GAM), a leading producer of conflict-free tantalum has joined the Public-Private Alliance for Responsible Minerals Trade (PPA), which was established in November 2011 as a joint initiative among governments, including the U.S., private companies, and civil society to support responsible supply chain solutions to conflict minerals challenges in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes Region of Africa (GLR).
“GAM has been a global leader in the production of conflict-free minerals and we will continue our work as we join forces with the PPA in our common mission toward responsible in-region sourcing and a conflict free mineral supply chain”
“GAM has been a global leader in the production of conflict-free minerals and we will continue our work as we join forces with the PPA in our common mission toward responsible in-region sourcing and a conflict free mineral supply chain,” said Stephen Krause, President of GAM Technology. “This alliance has already made progress toward achieving its goals and we look forward to contributing to effective solutions that enable trade of minerals that are not associated with conflict and violence in the DRC and the GLR.”
“As we work to build conflict-free frameworks that support economic development and stability in the region, it is essential that we have multi-stakeholder organizations like the PPA that offer comprehensive support and solutions for in-region due diligence activities,” said Jean-Paul Meutcheho, GAM’s Director of Corporate Sustainability - Conflict Minerals. “We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to more collaboration on new ideas and solutions as we help with the development and promotion of a conflict-free supply chain for tantalum from the DRC and adjoining countries.”
Conflict minerals involve the mining and trading of tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold that have been associated with the financing of armed conflict and violence in the DRC and adjoining countries. These valuable minerals are in some cases smuggled out of the DRC through neighboring countries and can make their way to the U.S. and all over the world in various consumer, commercial and industrial products.
