BANGOR, Wales--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--To mark what would have been legendary former Liverpool manager Bill Shankly's 100th birthday, specialist online book retailer the Book People is offering a limited-edition print of David Peace's critically-acclaimed novel Red or Dead.
“But there are only a limited number of copies available, so anyone who wants to pick one up will have to be quick about it.”
Presented in an impressive hardcover slipbox and signed by the author himself, there are only 1,000 copies of this print available - and you can pick up a copy from the Book People for £34.99. Beautifully packaged and a thrilling read, this really is the perfect gift for the Liverpool fan in your life.
"Red or Dead is an essential read for any committed football fan, and this limited edition is sure to make a great gift. It's a genuine collector's item," said Ryan Barham, editor at the Book People. "But there are only a limited number of copies available, so anyone who wants to pick one up will have to be quick about it."
Red or Dead tells the story of Shankly's role in the rise of Liverpool FC, and his shock resignation in 1974. Languishing in the second tier of English football when Shankly joined in 1959, the Scotsman had led Liverpool to domestic and European domination by the time his tenure at the club came to an end.
Of course, Red or Dead isn't David Peace's first foray into sports writing. His 2006 novel, the Damned Utd - a fictionalised account of Brian Clough's disastrous and brief spell as manager of Leeds United, also available from the Book People for £6.39 - was a critical and commercial success, with a film adaptation starring Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall following in 2009.
Liverpool fans may also be interested to read John Williams' extensively-researched history of the club, Red Men - which you can buy from the Book People for £7.19. Williams traces the highs and lows of Liverpool FC's history, also exploring the often-tumultuous social and cultural context which has shaped both the club and its home city.
