SAN FRANCISCO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--While students work hard to finish college, many lack the practical coaching and skills to help them land their first job. To help bridge this gap for University of Central Florida (UCF) students. Schwab’s employee resource group, Black Professionals at Charles Schwab (BPACS), has teamed up with UCF’s Multicultural Student Center for its second year of the UCF Bridge Development Program. This six-session, weekend program offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain practical and essential business skills to effectively transition from classroom to career. The biweekly program begins Saturday, Sept. 14.
“It’s a win-win for the students, the community and us”
Topics covered during the program include personal branding, resume-writing, interviewing, personal accountability, financial fitness, networking and mentoring. The workshops are facilitated by Schwab professionals and are targeted to students with diverse backgrounds and areas of study who are committed to professional and personal growth.
“This program aims to meet a critical need for young people just starting out,” said Ray Di Sanza, senior vice president/operations and location leader for Charles Schwab in Orlando. “It’s a grass roots effort on the part of Schwab employees who understand the value that practical, professional advice can bring to someone about to launch a first career. In fact, many of us who lead these sessions wish we’d had the benefit of this type of program when we were starting out ourselves!”
The series begins on September 14 and concludes on November 16. Students who are interested in the possibility of a career at Schwab will be encouraged to explore Schwab’s job opportunities at www.aboutschwab.com/careers.
“It’s a win-win for the students, the community and us,” said Di Sanza. “We’re investing in the future Orlando workforce, and potentially our future workforce as well.”
