ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Doreen A. Simmons, Esquire, has been selected to receive the prestigious 2013 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Second Circuit. The award will be presented by Steven F. Molo, Esquire on September 24 at the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse in New York City.
A partner in the firm of Hancock Estabrook, LLP, Simmons heads the firm’s Environmental Practice Group. She has more than 25 years of experience representing major and mid-sized industries, individuals, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations in environmental regulatory proceedings and matters involving compliance, acquisitions, and permitting in federal and state courts.
Simmons earned her undergraduate degree from Purdue University and her J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University. She is a member of the Onondaga County and New York State Bar Associations.
Founding president of the Northern District of New York Federal Bar Association, Simmons continues to serve on that group’s board of directors. She was presented with the Honorable James R. Duane Award for contributions to the federal practice in 2006. She serves as chair of the New York State Character and Fitness Committee for the Fifth Judicial District and is a member of the Second Circuit Joint Federal and State Judicial Council Committee.
Simmons is active in her community, serving as legal counsel for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, the Central New York Girl Scout Council, SAVES Ambulance, and the Skaneatales Fire Department.
