BOSTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Consumers are responding well to the efforts of traditional retailers to use mobile point of sale solutions to accommodate their check-out preferences no matter where they happen to be in a store, according to a recent survey conducted on behalf of an mPOS provider. This is just one of the observations presented in the August 2013 issue of the mPOS Tracker, an industry report produced by PYMNTS.com and sponsored by ROAM, a leader in the mobile commerce industry.
Additional observations discussed in this report include:
Russia sees mPOS as a key plank in merchant terminalization. mPOS solutions are finding their way to Russia which is an interesting development given this’s country preference for cash-based transactions due to fraud and security concerns when using cards.
Non-retail use cases flourish. mPOS is helping to shift the surprising number of insurance premium payments worldwide still paid in cash to cards. One of Thailand’s largest banks, with a robust insurance operation, is banking on mPOS as a way to increase the volume of premiums paid to them by simply offering consumers a more convenient payment option.
mPOS is no longer just about payments. Key sectors, in particular, restaurants, see mPOS as an alternative to more costly POS solutions, but seek service providers who can help them integrate these systems with order management, reservations and even pay-at-the–table applications.
August’s 2013 report features six new players to the MPOS Pyramid. The new merchant facing players are 2can, AEON, Dialog, Next Gen Dine, Nomad and WALLMOB. In addition, we’ve updated seven players from prior months. They include the following merchant facing players: Adyen, Cube, iZettle, PayPal Here and Groupon; and two suppliers: ROAM and AnywhereCommerce.
