BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--On September 7, 2013, the Chicago Sun-Times ran an article attempting to connect USI Insurance Services’ hiring of an Ohio lobbyist with ties to the city of Chicago’s managing deputy comptroller who worked for indicted former Comptroller Amer Ahmad. Any implications in the article that USI or any of its employees participated in inappropriate conduct are misleading and false.
Since 2001, USI has provided the highest quality insurance brokerage services to the city of Chicago on a wide variety of complex insurance risks, and USI has done so with professionalism and full integrity. Over the years, USI has saved the city of Chicago millions of dollars in premiums and losses, providing the best and most comprehensive insurance protection for large and challenging risks including the 2012 NATO summit. As part of standard business practices, USI works with lobbyists to help with complicated government contracting and communications among various government departments. The majority of other insurance brokerage companies also use lobbyists to assist them with government contracting with the city of Chicago. For this work, USI pays its lobbyists a standard fee. The lobbyist fee for all of the city of Chicago’s work is a standard fee of $4,000 per month pursuant to a written agreement.
USI and its employees are not aware of any payments or any other compensation being made to any city officials from any lobbyist or anyone else. Furthermore, in USI's experience, all of the officials involved in the city’s complex insurance needs have exhibited the highest integrity and skill.
