SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Low employee morale, missed deadlines and angry customers – these are the biggest negative impacts corporate “bottlenecks” create inside organizations, according to a survey conducted by Bonitasoft, a leading provider of business process management (BPM) technology.
“The survey reinforced what we’ve been seeing in the market for a long time – that employees in organizations of all sizes are frustrated by internal processes and looking for help”
The survey of 190 business people from companies big and small in a variety of industries identified the principal causes of bottlenecks in their organizations, the biggest impacts those bottlenecks create, and the moves their organizations are making to solve the problems.
Confusing processes (45 percent) and understaffed IT departments (43 percent) were chosen as the main causes for work slowdowns, followed by too many processes, colleagues not meeting deadlines, technology that is too rigid and not enough processes. In a separate question, respondents listed poor employee communication (58 percent), “too much work, too few people” (47 percent) and lack of employee training (41 percent) as top factors contributing to bottlenecks in an organization.
Asked how bottlenecks negatively impact organizations, 59 percent of the respondents said bottlenecks damage employees’ morale, 53 percent said they lead to missed deadlines, 42 percent said they make customers angry, and 36 percent answered loss of revenue. Only 3 of the 190 respondents – just over 1 percent -- felt bottlenecks didn’t impact their organizations.
“The survey reinforced what we’ve been seeing in the market for a long time – that employees in organizations of all sizes are frustrated by internal processes and looking for help,” said Miguel Valdes Faura, CEO and co-founder of Bonitasoft. “They believe technology can break through these barriers, and their companies are investing in tools to improve processes that are hampering productivity.”
Overall, 67 percent of respondents said they believe that technology can solve their organizations’ bottlenecks. In response to a separate question about what their organizations were doing to solve their bottlenecks, 47 percent mentioned investment in new technology, followed by moves to make it easier to access information (39 percent) and holding more meetings (36 percent).
Bonitasoft’s survey, conducted in the month of July, included responses from companies of different sizes: 41 percent of their organizations contained more than 1,000 employees while 21 percent employed fewer than 100. More than 26 percent came from companies involved in computers or other technology, with other large concentrations coming from healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, education and training, and banking and finance. Respondents addressing each question were asked to list all options that applied.
