BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lightning Eliminators & Consultants, Inc. (LEC), the leading supplier of integrated lightning protection and lightning prevention products, solutions and services, in association with the International Lightning Technology Institute and media sponsor Oil & Gas Financial Journal, today announced it will host the Second Lightning Protection Summit for Petroleum and Chemical Professionals. The event will take place October 10, 2013 at the Monument Inn in Houston’s Ship Channel.
“By educating executives in the industry, we can greatly reduce the number of lightning strikes and associated losses that occur at petroleum and chemical facilities globally.”
The two-part program is designed to help oil, gas and chemical industry professionals understand the way changing weather patterns are affecting lightning, the risks associated with lightning strikes, and the methods for preventing lightning from striking.
Part One: Dr. Albin J. Gasiewski, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Director, NOAA-CU Center for Environmental Technology, University of Colorado at Boulder
Dr. Gasiewski will explain how lightning works and will discuss what the future holds for this erratic weather event. He will share the most current information available with regard to lightning: its origins, its occurrence and anticipated future behavior. This scientific discussion will focus on the most recent research conducted at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Part Two: Peter Carpenter, Executive Vice President of Applied Engineering, Lightning Eliminators & Consultants
Mr. Carpenter will discuss risks associated with lightning strikes, and will share examples of how several of the largest petroleum and chemical companies have prepared for and prevented lightning disasters. He will share information about lightning protection best practices and solutions implemented around the world with higher than a 99 percent success rate.
“The feedback we received from attendees of our first lightning protection summit indicated that lightning remains an enigma for companies in the petroleum and chemical industries. Many aren’t aware that lightning strike patterns are changing, and most don’t know there’s an effective way to protect against it,” said Avram Saunders, president and CEO, Lightning Eliminators & Consultants. “By educating executives in the industry, we can greatly reduce the number of lightning strikes and associated losses that occur at petroleum and chemical facilities globally.”
