PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Shape Up RI, the statewide exercise and weight loss program founded in 2005 by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, is hosting a brand new challenge for this season. Companies from across the state will compete for eight weeks this fall to see who can average the most steps walked, the most minutes exercised, and the highest percentage of weight loss. The company that has the highest scores at the end of the challenge will earn the title of “Most In-Shape Company.”
“Participants will not only be motivated to improve their health, but also to build camaraderie with their colleagues as they join together to face off against companies from across the state. I can’t wait to see the competition come to life.”
Over the past seven years, Shape Up RI has offered numerous team based challenges that encourage participants to lead healthier lifestyles through increased physical activity and better nutrition. This new challenge takes the program to the next level by expanding the competition to a company level, building upon the friendly competition amongst teams, and extending Rhode Island’s healthy social network.
“We’re very excited to be offering this engaging and inspiring challenge,” said Dr. Rajiv Kumar, founder of Shape Up RI and CEO of ShapeUp, Inc. “Participants will not only be motivated to improve their health, but also to build camaraderie with their colleagues as they join together to face off against companies from across the state. I can’t wait to see the competition come to life.”
In order to ensure an even playing field, the competition is broken down into two separate brackets based on company size. Smaller companies with fewer than 100 employees will compete separately from those with more than 100 employees. Winning companies in each size bracket will be recognized at the end of the competition as the “Most In-Shape Company” in the state.
All companies in Rhode Island are welcome and encouraged to join the challenge. Participant registration begins September 2nd and the challenge begins September 30th. The cost of the challenge is $20 per participant, which includes a digital pedometer, log book and access to the online platform.
