PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August marks the one year anniversary of Consumer Cellular’s expansion into Redmond, Ore. Consumer Cellular, the number one rated cellphone service for the third consecutive year and exclusive wireless provider for AARP members, officially opened the doors of its 77,000-square-foot Redmond call center on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, and has since hired 240 employees. The company plans to hire another 30 employees each month until the end of the year.
“We are proud to be an active and integral part of the Redmond community and we will continue to hire within the community in order to further support the local economy, its residents and the growing Consumer Cellular subscriber base.”
Consumer Cellular’s expansion into Redmond preserved many of the jobs assumed lost when T-Mobile USA announced in March 2012 it would close its Central Oregon call center. The move allowed many former T-Mobile employees an opportunity to continue employment in similar positions with Consumer Cellular. The company plans to have a staff of 350 employees at the Redmond facility by the end of 2013 and could employ as many as 600 in the future to meet customer needs.
“We are thrilled to celebrate our first year in Redmond, and a successful one at that,” said John Marick, CEO of Consumer Cellular. “We are proud to be an active and integral part of the Redmond community and we will continue to hire within the community in order to further support the local economy, its residents and the growing Consumer Cellular subscriber base.”
Consumer Cellular also operates call centers in Phoenix, and at its Portland, Ore., headquarters. The expansion to Redmond has allowed the rapidly growing carrier to handle an increasing volume of calls for new service, new phone orders and customer service consultations, and played a crucial role in reaching the carrier’s one-million subscribers milestone in February.
