PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Athletes’ Performance today announced Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon has joined the Athletes’ Performance team as the director of football development. In this role, Moon will prepare and train exiting college quarterbacks and other position players for the 2014 NFL Combine. Moon, a 17-year NFL veteran, nine-time Pro Bowl selection, three-time All-Pro, an Offensive Player of the Year and a 2006 NFL Hall of Fame inductee, will utilize his extensive experience to lead players through on-field drills and classroom studies at each Athletes’ Performance facility to teach them the skills needed to excel at the NFL Combine and succeed at the next level. Since its inception in 1999, Athletes’ Performance has trained six No. 1 picks for the NFL Draft, 94 first rounders and 459 total selections.
“By adding an NFL legend like Warren Moon, Athletes’ Performance is upping its game to remain at the pinnacle of performance training and player development”
“By adding an NFL legend like Warren Moon, Athletes’ Performance is upping its game to remain at the pinnacle of performance training and player development,” said Mark Verstegen, president and founder of Athletes’ Performance, and the director of performance for the NFL Players’ Association. “Athletes’ Performance is the first Combine training program to offer players a chance to work with a Hall of Famer, and with Moon’s unique set of skills we anticipate players training with him will have a major leg up on the competition.”
Moon, who previously trained star NFL quarterbacks Cam Newton and Andrew Luck, will also lead a team from FBU (Football University), which has the nation’s largest roster of former NFL players and coaches, to support players at each Athletes’ Performance facility as they prepare for their position-specific drills at the Combine and their Pro Days. Additionally, coaches will focus on the mental and strategic preparations needed to make the successful transition from college to the pros.
“I’ve long admired Athletes’ Performance’s philosophy and approach to player development and training, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the team,” said Moon. “Today’s players know the significance of preparing early for the NFL Draft, and there’s no pre-draft event more important than the Combine. By working with Athletes’ Performance, players will benefit from industry leading strength, power, and speed training, along with personalized nutrition, physical therapy and recovery services. There is no better place for players to hone their skills and fundamentals as they embark on the next phase of their football careers.”
Moon marks the second high profile addition to the Athletes’ Performance staff in the past year. In January, Trevor Moawad was brought on as the vice president of mindset programs to lead the implementation of new mindset conditioning components and to support the growth and development of Athletes’ Performance’s professional, elite, corporate and collegiate athlete programs. Prior to Athletes’ Performance, Moawad served as a mental conditioning consultant for more than 20 NCAA and professional sports organizations. Moon and Moawad form an incomparable tandem of experience and proven results at the highest level of sport, and together make Athletes’ Performance the destination for players looking to physically and mentally prepare themselves for the next level.
