NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Columbia’s Business Edge Program is an intensive six-week program, offered by the Columbia University School of Continuing Education in partnership with the Columbia Business School. This program gives undergraduates or recent graduates with a non-business background the opportunity to acquire essential skills in finance, accounting, marketing and management through an integrated curriculum taught by Columbia Business School faculty. The program incorporates project-based study, as well as company visits, networking events, workshops and guest lectures from distinguished Columbia alumni and leading business men and women. Students who complete Business Edge will be able to analyze and interpret financial statements, understand the fundamentals of finance, develop innovative promotional strategies, and learn how to apply the core concepts of management and organizational theory in the workplace.
“With Business Edge, we are responding to an acute need to provide liberal-arts majors with core business skills so they are more competitive in today’s economy”
“With Business Edge, we are responding to an acute need to provide liberal-arts majors with core business skills so they are more competitive in today’s economy,” says Kristine Billmyer, Dean and Professor at Columbia’s School of Continuing Education. “To do so, we have partnered with Columbia Business School to deliver a top-quality program and made it available to students who want to study at Columbia over the summer.”
Amir Ziv, Vice Dean, Samberg Faculty Director and Professor of Accounting for Columbia Business School, adds: “One of the most noteworthy features of the Business Edge program is the integrated project, which is interwoven through the class modules of the program. Students will work in small teams to develop a business plan for a new start-up, then present and defend it in front of the program faculty, who will judge it based on real-world feasibility.”
Online information sessions about Business Edge will be offered on Wednesday, April 17 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and Wednesday, May 1 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
