COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is opening its thirteenth Men’s Wellness Center in the U.S. on February 14 in Columbus, Ohio. This center joins the other AHF sexual health centers operating in California, Florida, and Washington, D.C., as well as one center in Mexico City.
“There is effective treatment for most STDs, so it truly is better to know your status – for your health and for the health of your partner or partners.”
AHF Men’s Wellness Centers were designed to make testing for STDs accessible, convenient and affordable, as well as to encourage regular sexual health screenings as part of routine health care for all sexually active people. Services offered include free screening and treatment for gonorrhea, syphilis, and Chlamydia, as well as free HIV testing.
“Our hope is that by offering free, accessible services in a friendly, non-threatening venue, more people in the area will consider STD screenings as a regular part of their health maintenance – like going to the gym and getting a yearly check-up at the dentist,” said Albert Ruiz, AHF’s Director of Wellness Center Programs. “There is effective treatment for most STDs, so it truly is better to know your status – for your health and for the health of your partner or partners.”
According to 2011 data from the Ohio Department of Health STD Surveillance Program, there were 6,248 new Chlamydia cases and 2,565 new gonorrhea cases reported through March 18, 2012. There is often a notably significant correlation of HIV infection reported in collusion with the diagnosis of other STDs.
The Columbus Men’s Wellness Center is located at 815 West Broad Street, Suite 350, Columbus, Ohio 43222, and is open on Monday from 5:00pm to 7:30pm and Thursday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Walk-ins are welcome. More information can be found at www.freeSTDcheck.org or by calling (614) 223-1532.
