CAROL STREAM, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--From tablets to vehicles, construction professionals need to be constantly connected, and those who can meet the demand are poised to lead the marketplace. Today, Constructech magazine announced the winner of its first annual Connected Truck of the Year award.
“Now, in addition to looking for a vehicle that features a powerful engine or a cargo bed, construction professionals are calling for in-cabin voice commands, enhanced security features, and even the ability to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot”
Chosen by the editorial team at Constructech magazine, the Connected Truck of the Year recognizes one truck for the construction industry based on connectivity and a host of other key technology-driven features. The Connected Truck of the Year award honors the best truck that exemplifies a combination of convenience, safety, and infotainment into a sleek, stylish, and readily available model.
The winner of Constructech’s 2013 Connected Truck of the Year award is the Ram 1500 from Chrysler, featuring the Uconnect Access on the Sprint network.
“Trucks are now serving as an office, trailer, and communications center on wheels. Contractors are commuting from the jobsite back to the office,” says Peggy Smedley, editorial director, Constructech. “That’s why Chrysler’s Uconnect Access is turning a few heads in the construction industry and has caught the eye of this magazine, taking top honors as the 2013 Connected Truck of the Year.”
And what a storm the connected vehicle is stirring up. The traditional car market has been implementing technology in a way that has completely changed our ideas of in-vehicle connectivity and today’s trucks are poised to follow suit.
“Now, in addition to looking for a vehicle that features a powerful engine or a cargo bed, construction professionals are calling for in-cabin voice commands, enhanced security features, and even the ability to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot,” says Mike Carrozzo, chief editor, Constructech. “And trucks like the Ram 1500 can answer that call. We have seen so much advancement in the world of the connected truck. But this is just the beginning. I believe we have only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what this type of technology can do for the construction industry.”
