Unbanked Turn to RushCard for Faster, More Convenient Paperless Tax Refunds

Company offers secure, cost-effective and quick direct deposit alternatives and a chance to win Visa® Prepaid 2013 Tax Sweepstakes for Refund Load

CINCINNATI--()--As the IRS encourages tax filers to go paperless this year, Prepaid Visa® RushCard, a prepaid card pioneered by Russell Simmons in 2003, offers consumers a convenient direct deposit alternative for receiving their income tax refund. With direct deposit to a RushCard, tax filers can now receive their refunds faster, safer, and more conveniently this tax season.

“RushCard is the secure, cost-effective and speedy alternative that allows these consumers to have their tax refunds deposited electronically, rather than waiting for a paper check to arrive in the mail.”

As an added incentive for using RushCard to receive tax refunds, the company will participate in the Visa Prepaid 2013 Tax Sweepstakes for Refund Load, where those who enter the sweepstakes or load their refunds onto eligible Visa Prepaid cards are automatically entered to win free family groceries for a year*.

“Without access to direct deposit services, a huge percentage of the population has been forced to endure long wait times and exorbitant check-cashing fees just to receive their tax refunds,” said Rob Rosenblatt, RushCard CEO. “RushCard is the secure, cost-effective and speedy alternative that allows these consumers to have their tax refunds deposited electronically, rather than waiting for a paper check to arrive in the mail.”

According to an internal company survey of RushCard users who directly deposited their 2011 tax refund onto their card, 73% cited faster refunds as the number one reason they chose to directly deposit. In addition, nearly half (49%) said they directly deposited their refund to their RushCard to avoid paying fees to a check casher.

According to the same company survey, RushCard users agree that setting up a tax refund directly to their card is easy and effective. Before getting a RushCard, more than a third received their check through the mail (36%) but now, nearly all (90%) of RushCard users who chose direct deposit to receive their tax refund last year plan to do it again this year.

When receiving a refund on a RushCard, customers can take advantage of the card’s great features including:

  • Rush Text** & Email Alerts – Be notified as soon as the refund is available for use.
  • RushGoals - Set aside $500 or more of your refund in your RushGoal account and earn a rebate up to $2 every month you maintain it.
  • Free online Bill Pay - Pay rent, utilities or other bills electronically or by check (for vendors who do not accept electronic payments.)
  • Free customer service – Have questions about RushCard? 24/7 customer service is available in English and Spanish.
  • Free card-to-card transfers between RushCards on the same account, and $.99 to send money to friends and family who have a RushCard
