NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Chinese Business Lawyers Association and Fordham Law School will host a conference on legal issues involving China and Chinese companies. The conference will feature a range of leading practitioners, academics, and the highest-ranking Chinese-American judge in the United States, the Honorable Denny Chin of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
“China’s engagement in the American economy and legal market is increasing, and it behooves legal and business professionals to understand the situation in order to remain relevant and successful.”
“Deals and Suits: Challenges and Opportunities for Chinese Companies Doing Business in the United States” will take place at Fordham Law School’s McNally Amphitheatre from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on January 28, 2013.
The conference is split into two parts, one focusing on litigation issues and the second on deal-making. The format will emphasize debate and discussion among the panelists, as well as questions from the audience.
On the litigation panel, Judge Chin will focus on the issue of jurisdiction, an especially relevant topic, with many Chinese companies expressing concern over the willingness of U.S. courts to assert jurisdiction over these companies’ activities in China.
Joining Judge Chin are Professor Mark Cohen of Fordham Law School, discussing intellectual property litigation, as well as two attorneys from the leading international law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP. Lanier Saperstein, a partner at Dorsey & Whitney, and Geoffrey Sant, Special Counsel at Dorsey & Whitney, will discuss client-related issues, focusing upon the specific challenges of helping PRC clients navigate U.S. litigation.
The panel focused on deals will feature panelists Alex Hao, a partner at PRC law firm Jun He, as well as fellow practitioner Selig Sacks and investment banker Euan Rellie.
“This conference could not come at a more opportune time,” said Professor Carl Minzner. “China’s engagement in the American economy and legal market is increasing, and it behooves legal and business professionals to understand the situation in order to remain relevant and successful.”
