PASADENA, Calif. & SILICON VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Spartan Group LLC (TSG), a growing investment banking firm founded by senior professionals from leading Wall Street firms, announced today that Michael A. Mitgang has joined the firm as a Managing Director and Head of Technology Investment Banking.

Michael brings over 20 years of experience in investment banking and private equity and has participated in merger, acquisition, advisory and financing assignments for domestic and international clients. He has been an advisor and investor across all segments of the technology industry, including with both early- and late-stage companies in the US, Canada and Israel.

Previously, Michael was a Managing Director and Head of Private Placements at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray where he was also a member of the firm’s internal fund investment committee. He also co-founded Rigel Associates, a private equity group focused on investing in middle market technology companies. Earlier, he was with Salomon Smith Barney's Technology investment banking group where he was involved in public and private M&A and capital markets transactions.
Michael is a board member of Flexstar Technology, a storage test equipment company, and was a board member of Workbrain, a workforce management software company. He has been on the executive board of the Silicon Valley chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth and Vice Chair and steering committee member for the Business Leadership Council.
Michael holds a BASc. in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, an MBA from Columbia Business School and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.
