TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In the last year, Gamma Windows and Walls International Inc. in Canada, part of the burgeoning Gamma curtain wall/window wall/recladding enterprise across North America (division of the Far East Global Group Ltd.- HKEx 830.HK), has become the Canadian company with the largest amount of curtain wall projects in Canada, and Gamma’s Canadian operations are playing a key role in driving the overall growth of the company in North America - - accounting for approximately 60% of Gamma’s overall sales in 2012, according to Jim Mitchell, Gamma’s President of Canadian Operations located in Toronto. Today Gamma ranks as one of the top five largest curtain wall companies in North America and, through Gamma’s parent company, one of the largest in the world.
According to Jim Mitchell, Gamma’s overall North American sales company-wide jumped nearly 175% from $90 million (U.S.) at the end of 2011 to $245 million (U.S.) at the end of 2012. In 2012, Gamma opened two new Canadian offices in Toronto and Vancouver (in addition to the existing offices in Montreal and Quebec City), and Gamma recently was awarded seven new curtain wall projects - - five of which are located in three Canadian cities - - which overall total more than 1 million square feet.
Gamma also announced today an acquisition of a major Buffalo, NY-based glazing and curtain wall company that adds 150,000 square feet of fabrication capability to Gamma's already-existing capability in Quebec City and Miami-- bringing Gamma's North American-located total to approximately 420,000 square feet, the largest in the North American curtain wall industry.
Major New Gamma Developments In The Canadian Market
In Canada in 2012, Gamma opened offices in:
• Vancouver, British Columbia to serve clients in the western part of Canada down through the U.S. Pacific Northwest including Washington and Oregon;
• Toronto, Ontario - a regional office that significantly increases the company’s presence in the central Canadian market. Gamma is now hiring for this office highly experienced and respected senior design and engineering professionals - - all with at least 15 years experience.
One of the recent new Gamma projects in Canada is the CHUM Hospital Project in Montreal which is widely regarded as the second largest curtain wall contract in Canadian construction history.
Recently, Gamma purchased the assets of CBO Glass Inc., the long established (1960) curtain wall and glazing company in Buffalo NY.
Assets include a modern 150,000 square foot curtain wall fabrication facility that boosts Gamma’s North American fabrication capability by nearly 60% to 420,000 square feet (augmenting already existing facilities in Quebec and Miami) - - the largest in the industry in North America. This increases Gamma’s custom fabrication capabilities to serve both nearby markets in Toronto, Montreal, Chicago and New York and gives customers across Canada and the U.S. the highest level of owned-and-operated flexibility in fabrications options available in North America. As appropriate, Gamma also offers customers fabrication at one of Far East Global’s two major plants in China, which represent 400,000 square feet of plant area.
Immediately, Gamma is capitalizing on the new Buffalo facility, funneling there a substantial amount of curtain wall fabrication from the recent new project wins. This fills a significant percentage of Buffalo’s manufacturing capacity.
The acquisition also includes an experienced workforce with deep curtain wall expertise and a portfolio of customers up and down the East Coast from the Washington, DC area, up through Philadelphia and New Jersey to Buffalo and Boston.
In Buffalo, Gamma has retained existing employees, is hiring experienced new leadership, already has added 20 new jobs and plans to add up to 100 additional hourly workers in 2013 to service a strong backlog of this work for this facility.
