ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sen. Barbara Favola representing Virginia’s 31st District recently visited Westwood College’s Arlington campus in response to the Virginia Career College Association’s effort to expand awareness of the benefits of the hands-on education and student support that colleges like Westwood provide their diverse student body.
“I was impressed by the learning environment as well as their responses regarding the support services available to them.”
On the day of Sen. Favola’s visit, many of Westwood’s medical assisting and criminal justice students were on campus. Sen. Favola spoke with these students, who are pursuing diploma, associate and bachelor degrees, about Westwood’s interest in helping the whole student -- not only their educational experience but also providing services from Metro passes to childcare opportunities to help them stay in school.
“While walking the hallways of Westwood’s campus in Arlington, I asked students tough questions about the degree they were pursuing as well as the level of support they received from faculty and staff,” said Sen. Favola. “I was impressed by the learning environment as well as their responses regarding the support services available to them.”
“Our institution is focused on offering students an open and honest experience from the time they first inquire about the college to the support they receive on campus and through entry into the workforce,” said Lauck Walton, campus president of Westwood College Annandale and president of the Virginia Career College Association. “We were honored to show Senator Favola how we effectively serve a nontraditional student body that includes many who have tried and determined that community colleges or traditional universities are not the right fit for them, work full-time and often are older and have children at home.”
