WOODBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To benefit the victims of Superstorm Sandy, GEICO’s Philanthropic Foundation is contributing $125,000 to the United Way, American Red Cross, and Salvation Army. GEICO associates also contributed an additional $10,000, totaling up to $135,000 to these hurricane relief organizations.

The funds will be used to provide assistance and address the recovery needs of the communities that were most affected by the storm. The check presentation to these organizations will be held at GEICO’s Woodbury office on Friday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m.

After Superstorm Sandy swept through the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, GEICO associates across the country stepped in to raise funds for hurricane relief efforts. GEICO’s Lakeland office sold New York-style bagels and pizza and auctioned basketball tickets to their associates while GEICO’s Coralville office hosted a bake sale.

Since Hurricane Sandy’s landfall, GEICO has been working diligently to assist policyholders affected by the storm. More than 500 adjusters across the country were sent to the New York and New Jersey regions to inspect vehicles, process claims and hand out settlement checks. GEICO also deployed its corporate satellite communications trailer to assist policyholders located in the hardest hit areas.
