LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Alpari companies, leading global providers of online foreign exchange ("Forex", "FX") trading services and title sponsor of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour (AWMRT), have signed a sponsorship deal with New Zealand match racing team, BlackMatch Racing. The Alpari companies will support the team as they compete at the Tour’s season finale – the Monsoon Cup in Malaysia.
“We need to perform in Malaysia because it would definitely help to put our case forward for a tour card next year. It’s a statement of intent to the Tour that we’re the guys they need to have on the series. We’ll give it everything to get a result”
The team, lead by skipper Adam Minoprio, a tour card hopeful for 2013, has been renamed the Alpari Racing Team for the event. The sponsorship deal will run until 8 December 2012, the last day of the Monsoon Cup.
Minoprio believes that a successful Monsoon Cup will give him the perfect platform to launch another challenge for the ISAF Match Racing World Championship title. “We need to perform in Malaysia because it would definitely help to put our case forward for a tour card next year. It’s a statement of intent to the Tour that we’re the guys they need to have on the series. We’ll give it everything to get a result,” Minoprio said.
“We’re really pleased to have this support from Alpari and it’ll help us to go to the event and do it properly. With some of the finance taken care of, we can focus on sailing,” he added.
David Hodge, Marketing Director at Alpari (UK), noted, “Adam is a strong contender and has displayed some of the values we share as a business – drive, determination and teamwork. We at the Alpari companies are committed to sailing and proud to support Adam at the season finale.”
During the Monsoon Cup, members of the Alpari Racing Team will wear Alpari-branded apparel. They will also take part in Alpari’s on-site events, including a live forex trading contest against the other skippers. “I’m pretty new to forex trading, but it looks interesting and I know they have tutorials for new traders,” Minoprio said.
Minoprio won the Tour in 2009 and has since embarked on a Volvo Ocean Race season with CAMPER Team New Zealand, returning this year for two Tour events – Match Race France and the Argo Group Gold Cup in Bermuda, where he finished 11th and 5th, respectively.
The Monsoon Cup, Malaysia’s second biggest sports event of the year, will take place on 3-8 December at the Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa, Pulau Duyong, Kuala Terengganu.
