KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--With the famous Las Vegas strip framing the background and smoke pouring out of the nearby competition cookers, The Great American BBQ Tour kicked off with a bang at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. More than 40,000 fans were in attendance at the ACM BBQ Throwdown to witness the Great American BBQ Tour begin its yearlong quest to bring “America’s Cuisine” to barbeque fans and festival-goers across the country.
“The tour is now entering its fifth year, and thanks to our national partners, we’re able to share BBQ in a fun and engaging way.”
The Kansas City Barbeque Society created the tour to educate and share secrets about professional barbeque at some of the nation’s premier competitions and food festivals. This year marks the fifth annual cross country journey for the Great American BBQ Tour, which will delight and entertain festival attendees in 23 cities across the United States and Canada.
“With America’s growing appetite for great BBQ, we created the Great American BBQ Tour to celebrate BBQ as a culinary art form” said KCBS Executive Director Carolyn Wells. “The tour is now entering its fifth year, and thanks to our national partners, we’re able to share BBQ in a fun and engaging way.”
The Great American BBQ Tour features the championship barbeque team of Mike and Christine Peters sharing grilling tips and tasty food samples with event attendees. The fan-favorite Peters take techniques that the professionals use on the KCBS competition barbeque circuit and show fans how to apply them to their own backyard grill.
Among the recipes being sampled, Mike Peters will prepare a Smithfield pork loin using new Weber Just Add Juice marinade mix, show people how to personalize Reser’s Original Potato Salad and create a delicious grill-top sandwich using Castle Wood Reserve meats and cheeses.
Using the official cooker of the Great American BBQ Tour, the Big Green Egg, and the official grilling accessory, ThermoWorks Thermapen, the Peters will be cooking and demonstrating all of the recipes using some of the most popular tools used by the pros on the competition barbeque circuit.
To celebrate the 2012 election year, the Great American BBQ Tour has caught campaign fever! All season long the Great American BBQ Tour is inviting fans and attendees to ‘Vote the Q’. Fans can vote for their favorite tour event and one of the tour’s three ‘meat’ candidates. Voting will take place at each Great American BBQ Tour stop and on the tour’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/greatamericanbbqtour). Fans can also participate in online contests to win a Big Green Egg Grill.
In addition to being educated, entertained and of course, fed, attendees at the Great American BBQ Tour events can enter to win a fabulous Great American Giveaway gift package that includes a Big Green Egg Grill, EGGcessories, a year’s supply of Weber Just Add Juice marinade, Reser’s Original Potato Salad, Castle Wood Reserve meats and cheeses and ThermoWorks grilling accessories.
With a membership of almost 16,000 barbeque cooks and enthusiasts, KCBS is the world’s largest barbeque society. Using an objective and blind judging process, KCBS will sanction more than 400 festivals and events this year. Thousands will compete for millions of prize dollars, all in front of an estimated 10 million fans that will attend a KCBS sanctioned event in 2012.
