NEW YORK--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Baruch College MFE students took first place in the annual Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), held February 23 -25 in Toronto. Baruch assembled two teams which placed in the top five overall standings, taking first and fourth places, beating last year’s winner MIT and other top schools including Duke University, Boston University, and Columbia University.
“Our students formed a real team - helping each other trade better and focusing on the overall P&L and the success as a team, not on individual performance or the relative standing of the two teams.”
The Baruch MFE Team members were: Alexei Smirnov, Alex Hawat, Andrew Chang, Gama Le Bouder, Tom Maloney, Victor Chen, Yike Lu, and Zhechao Zhou. The team was prepared by Eugene Krel Baruch MFE ’09 and was led in Toronto by Eugene and Professor of Mathematics Rados Radoicic.
“Our teams were extremely consistent and followed the pre-designed strategy, not being lured by potential ‘break-the-bank’ strategies, but performing at a very high level throughout the competition,” said the Director of the Masters of Financial Engineering Program Assistant Professor Dan Stefanica. “Our students formed a real team - helping each other trade better and focusing on the overall P&L and the success as a team, not on individual performance or the relative standing of the two teams.”
The competition was hosted by the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. The competition brings teams of students and faculty from universities worldwide to participate in a unique three-day conference. The conference utilizes simulated trading cases that closely mimic different aspects of real world markets. Having developed these cases in its state of the art Financial Research and Trading Lab, the RITC presented teams with challenges that were pertinent to current market trends. Conference organizers adopted the Rotman Interactive Trader (RIT) platform in the 2006 competition and have continued to utilize RIT's newly added features to offer more variety in its trading cases and a better trading experience for participants.
