BOSTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--BostInno, the fastest growing news property in New England covering local innovation in Boston, is announcing the addition of Mary McGrath, web, television and radio producer, and co-founder of Open Source Media, as editor.
“Boston is a vastly more interesting, vital city than our media reflect. A platform that surfaces the staggering talent here among teachers, students, scientists, doctors, artists, writers and entrepreneurs of all kinds is incredibly powerful”
“Mary is an industry disrupter that has a fundamental understanding of media and Boston audiences,” said Chase Garbarino, CEO and co-founder of Streetwise Media and BostInno. “She’ll be an exceptional leader of our editorial team.”
A media innovator with a background in broadcast radio, television production, digital and social media, Mary is the co-founder of Open Source Media, Inc., an independent production company known for its signature program “Open Source”, which pioneered the hybridization of radio with digital distribution models and social media applications. Mary was the co-creator and award-winning producer of “The Connection,” a call-in talk radio program on WBUR radio in Boston.
“This is an incredible opportunity, at a pivotal moment in the growth of BostInno,” said McGrath. “It’s a chance to reinvent local media by using a model that is, at its core, all about openness, participation, collaboration, and interactivity.”
BostInno has been growing rapidly. Receiving $1.3M in funding in July, the team has grown to 11 employees, and with page views up over 270% in the past six months, the site has expanded its content. Building on its model of fast-paced, inside news about Boston’s tech and start-up scene, BostInno now includes higher education, city news, and other verticals.
Larry Weber, founder and chairman of the W2 Group, and co-founder of MITX, stated that Mary will be an “extraordinary addition” to BostInno as a community publishing platform. “I have no doubt that Mary will help further catapult BostInno’s content and community to entirely new levels of engagement and openness. She pioneered a model in radio that BostInno is now pioneering online,” said Weber.
As editor, Mary will oversee the quality and development of content, recruit new writers and editors for BostInno and Streetwise Media’s future properties, build BostInno’s network of guest contributors, and help guide overall editorial strategy.
“Boston is a vastly more interesting, vital city than our media reflect. A platform that surfaces the staggering talent here among teachers, students, scientists, doctors, artists, writers and entrepreneurs of all kinds is incredibly powerful,” said McGrath. “I believe you engage audiences around high quality content and conversation by inviting them to help create it.”
