WASHINGTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--A former Federal Trade Commission lawyer with an extensive antitrust background and experience in consumer privacy and data security matters has joined Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P.’s Antitrust and Competition practice. Erika Brown Lee joins as Senior Counsel.
“Erika’s inside government perspective will further assist our clients during a time of increased enforcement initiatives. We are pleased to have her as part of our team.”
“Erika’s capabilities and experience complement our efforts to assist global clients when it comes to competition matters and the expanding areas of consumer protection and privacy,” said Layne Kruse, the co-head of Fulbright’s Antitrust and Competition practice. “Erika’s regulatory experience will assist our domestic and international clients in their cross-border mergers and acquisitions.”
Brown Lee will work in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office alongside Fulbright Partner Pamela Jones Harbour, a former Federal Trade Commissioner. Harbour is well recognized for her knowledge of evolving areas of competition and consumer protection law, including privacy and data security issues.
Brown Lee joined the FTC in 2000 and has worked at multiple levels in the agency. She spent three years as Counsel to the Director of the Bureau of Competition, where she assisted in managing the agency’s antitrust portfolio of merger and anticompetitive conduct investigations. Brown Lee also was an attorney advisor to an FTC Commissioner, where she made recommendations on enforcement and policy matters. Additionally, she gained key experience serving on a FTC team that obtained a preliminary injunction to block a merger between electronic systems companies. As a staff attorney in three of the agency's merger divisions, she also led and participated in investigations in the health care, supermarket, retail and energy industries.
Most recently, Brown Lee worked in the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, where she handled privacy and data security issues related to the health care industry. She also worked on matters involving internet advertising and the safeguarding of consumer information.
“The opportunity to join an international law firm combined with the ability to focus on issues related to competition, privacy and doing business online seemed a perfect fit,” Brown Lee said. “I am delighted to join Pamela at a firm known for its work assisting multi-national clients as they deal with regulatory and transactional concerns.”
Brown Lee received her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1993 and her bachelor’s degree in finance from Boston College in 1990. She also has a LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science that she received in 1994. Brown Lee is only licensed to practice in New York. While her application for admission to the District of Columbia Bar is pending, Brown Lee’s practice will be supervised directly by principals of the firm licensed to practice in the District of Columbia.
“Erika brings broad experience working within the FTC, where she has served in both of the major divisions of the agency in several different capacities,” said Joseph T. Small Jr., the head of Fulbright’s Washington, D.C. office. “Erika’s inside government perspective will further assist our clients during a time of increased enforcement initiatives. We are pleased to have her as part of our team.”
