Picture Your World Nature Photography Workshops

Digital Photography Project for Youth

SAN ANTONIO--()--Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas’ very successful Picture Your World Nature Photography Project continues throughout the 2009-2010 school year. This series of workshops focus on discovering the unique qualities of Nature’s elements.

“Fire - The Sun is Fuel, Photosynthesis, Calories”

The next digital nature photography workshop "Fire - The Sun is Fuel, Photosynthesis, Calories" will be held December 5 at the Robert L.B. Tobin Park. Registration forms can be found online at www.greenspacesalliance.org/community/pyw/signup20092010.

In each class, a professional photographer and a professional naturalist help students fully explore nature and their environment through the eye of a camera lens.

The Picture Your World workshop series began in September. See nature photos taken at previous sessions: http://www.flickr.com/groups/pictureyourworld. Classes are held at various sites in and around the San Antonio area that offer opportunities to capture nature and Texas' natural resources. Students may attend all classes or select from the various locations.

The workshop season ends with a nature photo competition in the spring of 2010. Contest winners receive cash prizes and will have their work displayed at a public venue.

Classes are separated by age: 8-12 year olds learn in the morning and 13-18 year olds in the afternoon. Students may borrow digital cameras or bring their own.

Cost is $10 per class for the children of Green Spaces Alliance members and $15 per class for the children of non-members.* For more information, call 210-222-8430 or email info@greenspacesalliance.org.

*Fees may be waived for students demonstrating financial need. To apply for a waiver, submit a note from a teacher or other authority who can attest to the student’s financial status.

Thanks to a grant from The Boeing Company Charitable Trust, Green Spaces is bringing the Picture Your World program to local classrooms. This grant provides funding for fourth and fifth graders from Douglass Elementary in the San Antonio ISD and Gonzalez Elementary in the Edgewood ISD to learn from and enjoy nature. http://greenspacesalliance.org/media/news/green_spaces_receives_grant_from_boeing_corporation_foundation_copy/

Picture Your World is one of Green Spaces Alliance’s numerous programs that focuses on promoting community awareness. It aims to demonstrate the need for conservation through images that reveal the interconnectedness of earth, water, sky, and the creatures living in the environment, including man. Picture Your World is being coordinated for Green Spaces Alliance by art educator Sherry Christensen.
