MINNEAPOLIS & ST. PAUL, Minn.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--On Saturday, April 22, nearly 2,000 local Comcast NBCUniversal employees, family members, friends and community partners will “Make Change Happen” while volunteering at 14 individual project sites in the Twin Cities as part of the 16th annual Comcast Cares Day.
“It’s truly amazing what’s possible when 2,000 volunteers donate their time to make a difference in the lives of others. I am thankful for our volunteers and the opportunity to bring attention to the issue of safe, affordable housing for those in need.”
This year, Comcast Twin Cities is focusing on projects that will help meet the need for stable, affordable housing for families and individuals in transition. This includes Comcast’s on-going commitment to the region’s military community at projects designed to assist veterans and their families experiencing challenges with disabilities.
More than 300 Comcast employees will partner with Greater Twin Cities United Way at the Dairy Building on the State Fairgrounds to assemble Welcome Home kits for individuals and families moving into their first home. The kits will include blankets, cleaning supplies, kitchen and bath supplies, and more. Other projects in the Twin Cities include:
Journey Home (Vadnais Heights)
- 100 volunteers will clean, paint and organize single family-homes for veterans facing physical and financial challenges.
St. David’s Child Development & Family Services (Minnetonka)
- 75 volunteers will tackle several indoor and outdoor maintenance projects.
- 150 employees will build household dressers for those transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.
American Cancer Society – Hope Lodge (Minneapolis)
- 100 volunteers will assist with planting, mulching, interior painting and more.
Pillsbury United Communities (Minneapolis)

“As we celebrate our 16th annual Comcast Cares Day, we are proud to partner with a variety of community organizations to give back in the Twin Cities,” said Jeff Freyer, Comcast regional vice president. “It’s truly amazing what’s possible when 2,000 volunteers donate their time to make a difference in the lives of others. I am thankful for our volunteers and the opportunity to bring attention to the issue of safe, affordable housing for those in need.”
“We’re proud to partner with Comcast each year on this incredible day of volunteering,” said Sarah Caruso, president and CEO of Greater Twin Cities United Way. “Comcast Cares Day embodies the true spirit of giving back to our communities and demonstrates the power of human kindness. We at United Way believe that when our community comes together, it inspires action and we can all make a difference.”
Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it’s the culmination of Comcast NBCUniversal’s commitment to volunteerism that began when the company was founded more than 50 years ago. From using technology to create positive change by teaching digital literacy skills, to mentoring youth, or beautifying parks, Comcast NBCUniversal employees volunteer on this day, and throughout the year, to make a lasting impact. This year, the Company expects more than 100,000 volunteers to participate in approximately 900 projects across the country and around the world. To date, volunteers have contributed nearly 5 million volunteer hours at 7,700 projects since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001.
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
Additionally, Comcast will once again fold in the broad support and amplification of Global Citizen and Red Nose Day, organizations aiming to end extreme poverty globally and in the United States. These organizations use the universal language of music and entertainment as a vehicle to engage people around the world to make a difference. By amplifying our support of these initiatives on Comcast Cares Day, Comcast NBCUniversal is providing additional ways to help drive positive change in our communities.
