IRVING, Texas--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Health care industry experts, infectious diseases thought leaders and epidemiology professionals will convene in St. Louis on March 29-31, 2017 for the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America’s (SHEA) spring conference. Kristi Kuper, PharmD, BCPS, senior clinical manager, infectious diseases for Vizient, Inc., will present as part SHEA’s antibiotic stewardship course for conference attendees.
“This training program is designed to educate pharmacists, physicians, and other health care professionals involved in treatment of infectious diseases on best practices for their antibiotic stewardship programs and to prepare them to implement successful programs locally.”
Attendees of the 2017 SHEA Spring Conference will have the opportunity to discuss innovative topics and industry trends that are innovative in the healthcare epidemiology and the field of infectious diseases. There will also be focused scientific abstracts presented that will cover topics related to epidemiology, surveillance, implementation science and patient safety and prevention strategies. The conference will include infectious diseases physicians and pharmacists, hospital epidemiologists, infection preventionists, and nurses.
Dr. Kuper will present “Beginning Antibiotic Stewardship Strategies and Measurement” at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 29 and “Optimizing Technology in Antibiotic Stewardship” at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30.
“Antibiotic stewardship programs are one of the last lines of defense that we have against fighting antibiotic resistance. While the majority of hospitals in the U.S. now have some form of ASP in place, we need to get to the point where every hospital has a program. Additionally, the number of new antibiotics coming to market is outpaced by the amount of antibiotic resistance that we are seeing so it is important to preserve these resources,” said Kuper. “This training program is designed to educate pharmacists, physicians, and other health care professionals involved in treatment of infectious diseases on best practices for their antibiotic stewardship programs and to prepare them to implement successful programs locally.”
