SAN FRANCISCO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Via Licensing today announced a modification to its royalty rate structure for its LTE patent pool licenses covering mobile devices such as handsets and tablets. The changes are aimed at promoting innovation in the industry and facilitating access to patent licenses by new market entrants and low volume manufacturers.
“While our updated rates may have the greatest impact for new market entrants and low volume manufacturers, all potential licensees will be eligible to take advantage of these rates in the relevant volume tiers.”
“We modified our rates to be more welcoming to innovative small and medium-sized companies, a segment of the market that is very dynamic,” said Joe Siino, President of Via. “While our updated rates may have the greatest impact for new market entrants and low volume manufacturers, all potential licensees will be eligible to take advantage of these rates in the relevant volume tiers.”
The updated LTE patent pool rate structure is the latest innovative strategy from Via, which has been working aggressively during the last year to broaden access to patent pool licenses globally. As an example, Via has recently revised the royalty rate structure of its AAC patent pool to increase access to patent rights in emerging markets.
