ARLINGTON, Va.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC), the premier driver of air travel intelligence and commerce in the travel industry, reported today that the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies increased 5.6 percent* in January 2017 as compared to 2016, totaling $7.7 billion vs. $7.3 billion. Total fares were also up nearly 6 percent as well as ticket transactions, which increased 11 percent to 15.5 million vs. 14 million in January 2016.
International travel also saw an uptick. International fares increased nearly 8 percent to approximately $3 billion in January compared to $2.7 billion in 2016. International transactions were also up more than 14 percent.
Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD)** sales comprised nearly $6 million, a 110 percent increase over 2016. EMD transactions increased 146 percent to more than 103,300 in January 2017 vs. nearly 42,000 in 2016.
