CLEVELAND--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Flexjet LLC, offering travelers access to the world’s most luxurious fleet of private jets, today congratulated the Flexjet polo team, which won the 2016 Aspen World Snow Polo Championship on Sunday, defeating the U.S. Polo Association team 7-4 in an action-packed final. The dramatic win avenged Flexjet’s loss to U.S. Polo Association in last year’s Snow Polo Championship final, and positions the team for an outstanding 2017 campaign.
“Increasingly, we also see Owners flying in to attend the popular polo summer series at the Aspen Valley Polo Club as well as the World Snow Polo Championship.”
Earlier, Flexjet announced that it will extend its sponsorship of the Flexjet polo team, which also won the season-finale Carbondale Classic this year.
The Aspen World Snow Polo Championship is the only one of its kind in North America and annually draws a high-profile audience of polo fans to idyllic Aspen, Colorado to watch some of the world’s best players. Flexjet served as a sponsor of the tournament and as its official private aviation provider. Fans enjoyed a premium view of the field in Flexjet’s heated, on-site VIP tent.
“At Flexjet, one of our guiding principles is a long-term approach to relationships, and we have been honored to partner with the Flexjet Polo Team and the Aspen World Snow Polo Championship for many years now,” said Flexjet Vice President of Global Marketing Christopher Bero. “The Flexjet Polo Team exemplifies our desire to further enrich the passion points of our Owners, and we are thrilled to be associated with this dedicated team and such a distinctive event. We now look forward to sponsoring the team in 2017 and to a great year.”
Flexjet has sponsored the Flexjet Polo Team since 2014. The team, captained by Melissa Ganzi, had one of its most successful campaigns in 2016, winning the season-finale Carbondale Classic in Aspen this past August and compiling a strong record in polo matches around the nation throughout the year. Flexjet’s lineup for the three-person snow polo version of the game featured Ganzi, Jason Crowder and Jesse Bray.
The Aspen Valley Polo Club hosted the World Snow Polo Championship for the fourth consecutive year. The Club was co-founded by Ganzi and her husband Marc, who also is a renowned player and patron of polo. Melissa Ganzi, among the few women in the world playing the elite sport of high-goal polo, said, “Flexjet has been a loyal and enormously supportive sponsor of our team during what has been a breakthrough year, and we are excited to win this year’s Aspen World Snow Polo Championship with its support.”
Aspen is one of the locales that ranks in Flexjet Owners’ top 10 most favored destinations in both summer and winter. “Aspen attracts Flexjet Owners during the winter skiing season and as a getaway in the summers, with the town’s world-renowned arts and music festivals,” said Flexjet Vice President of Owner Experience Megan Wolf. “Increasingly, we also see Owners flying in to attend the popular polo summer series at the Aspen Valley Polo Club as well as the World Snow Polo Championship.”
Snow polo, first played in 1985 in St. Moritz, Switzerland, is a variant on the more familiar turf version of the sport that is played seasonally in U.S. venues such as Aspen, Florida and Long Island. The winter version of the game is adapted to snowy conditions through a smaller field, three-player teams, cleated horseshoes for better traction and a larger, lighter, red-colored ball.
In addition to Aspen, snow polo is played in other globally renowned winter sports locations. Such locales include St. Moritz, Switzerland; Bariloche, Argentina; and Cortina, Italy, all of which can be reached directly from North America via Flexjet’s fleet of long-range private jets including the Gulfstream G450, Bombardier Global Express and the soon to come Gulfstream G650 and G500.
