NEW ORLEANS--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--PRIUM Senior Vice President Mark Pew will present two sessions at the National Workers’ Compensation & Disability Conference & Expo.
“Prescription Drug Formularies: Their Implementation and Claims Impact.”
The merging of American Airlines and US Airways highlighted hundreds of complex legacy claims, many of which involved opioids and other inappropriate medications. Pew and Jennifer Saddy, American Airlines Director of Workers’ Compensation, discuss the strategies used to evaluate claims for immediate settlement or intervention. The “Fostering a Claims Closure Culture” session will start at 11 a.m. on November 30.
“Jennifer’s team aggressively identified cost drivers and barriers to settlement and employed jurisdictionally appropriate medical/pharmaceutical interventions to change inappropriate treatment,” Pew said. “These efforts decreased those legacy claims by 29 percent.”
Pew takes the stage again the next afternoon at 3 for “Prescription Drug Formularies: Their Implementation and Claims Impact.” Robert Snyder, MD, Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s medical director and Johnnie Hanna, pharmacy program director of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, discuss the elements of drug formularies, how medications are selected for inclusion or exclusion and how formularies impact prescribing habits and claims outcomes.
“Ohio has experiential outcomes after launching their drug formulary in 2011 while Tennessee just launched theirs in 2016. Comparing notes should be helpful to jurisdictions considering a drug formulary,” Pew said.
