Andrew Miskin Named First Chair of Association of International Certified Professional Accountants

Tim Christen will serve as initial Vice Chair of Association that will advance public and management accounting globally

LONDON--()--Andrew Miskin, FCMA, CGMA, has been named the first chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (the Association), the new global accounting organisation to be formed early next year by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Miskin is the current president of CIMA and will continue to serve in that role concurrently.

“Above all, he understands both the power of management and public accounting, and the potential that can be unlocked by both disciplines working together for a stronger profession.”

He will work closely with Tim Christen, CPA, CGMA, outgoing chairman of the AICPA board of directors who will serve as initial vice chair of the Association.

Members of the AICPA and CIMA earlier this year overwhelmingly endorsed the creation of the Association to advance management and public accounting around the world. The Association will be formally established in early 2017 and represent more than 650,000 CPAs, CGMAs and students studying to earn those designations. The AICPA and CIMA will continue to serve members and will integrate management, strategy and operations through the Association to strengthen advocacy, enhance member employability and expand market insights and member resources.

The new Association will be governed by a board of directors composed of CPAs and CGMAs responsible for overseeing strategies that advance the organisation’s objectives. The board will be led by either the president of CIMA or chairman of the AICPA on a rotating basis. The initial board leadership was announced as CIMA concluded its governing Council meeting today. Miskin will be formally introduced to the AICPA’s governing Council when it convenes on Sunday.

“These are exciting days for our profession. Technological changes are transforming business models and creating new ways of working, meaning that the world of finance and accounting contains new challenges and vast opportunities,” Miskin said. “The Association will keep our members on the forefront of market need by providing the insight, skills and knowledge necessary to continue adapting and thriving. I am honored to be appointed first chair of the Association and to be able to play a role in this evolution.”

"The launch of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants is an extraordinary milestone in the evolution of the accounting profession,” said Barry Melancon CPA, CGMA, President and CEO of the AICPA who will also lead the Association as CEO. “Andrew Miskin is the right person to take the helm as the first chair. He is a respected change agent with deep experience in accounting and a commitment to driving quality and value for businesses and economies around the world."

“The formation of this profession-wide Association sends a powerful message across the world, and Andrew Miskin is perfectly suited for this leadership role,” added Andrew Harding, Chief Executive at CIMA. “Above all, he understands both the power of management and public accounting, and the potential that can be unlocked by both disciplines working together for a stronger profession.”

Miskin attended Cambridge University where he studied engineering and began his career as an industrial engineer with Michelin Tires. He moved into management consulting 25 years ago and has held senior leadership roles across a number of organisations, including KPMG, IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He specialised in helping businesses and their executives manage change.

Christen also brings a wealth of experience to his role as vice chair. He was formerly chairman and CEO for Top 15 accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP where he served for nearly 20 years before being named Chairman Emeritus. Christen, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, has been named Accounting Today’s Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting.
