HOUSTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Earlier this year, the nonprofit Digital Promise launched an effort to collect and evaluate quality examples of how ed-tech companies conduct and use research in designing and improving their products. Some 53 ed-tech companies shared an array of approaches in three submission categories: Learning Sciences, User Research, and Evaluation Research. Representatives from Teachers College, Columbia University reviewed the submissions and awarded Accelerate Learning™ an honorable mention in the User Research Category for its continuous use of research to understand user behaviors and needs, and its systematic use of the data to constantly improve its STEMscopes™ preK-12 products.
“We’re honored to receive this recognition and to be a part of Digital Promise’s efforts to inspire other ed-tech developers to incorporate research into their work and create stronger products to support teaching and learning.”
Since STEMscopes was introduced in 2007, Accelerate Learning has conducted an array of research to evaluate teacher and student usage, as well as the effectiveness of the STEMscopes products. This research includes formative evaluation studies with school districts, effectiveness studies using data from statewide achievement tests, and user-wide studies.
“Research is always top of mind in the design and continuous improvement of STEMscopes. In fact, one of the things Accelerate Learning does best is soliciting input and feedback from our customers so we can adapt our curriculum products to better meet their needs and help students achieve continuous improvement,” said Dr. Vernon Johnson, president and CEO of Accelerate Learning. “We’re honored to receive this recognition and to be a part of Digital Promise’s efforts to inspire other ed-tech developers to incorporate research into their work and create stronger products to support teaching and learning.”
STEMscopes is built from the ground up to address the Next Generation Science Standards and today’s state standards. It provides teacher and student digital resources, supplemental print materials, and hands-on exploration kits that build student engagement and excitement for learning. Studies show that students who use STEMscopes have higher passing rates on science assessments and spend more time on STEM.
