and

NEW YORK--()--Mark Borghi Fine Art is pleased to present Bernie Taupin’s first one-man show in New York: BLUEPRINT - A Retrospective. The artworks will be available at the gallery’s Bridgehampton location (2426 Main Street Bridgehampton, NY 11932) from July 12th – July 26, 2015, 10am-6pm daily. An opening reception will be held on July 11th from 6-9pm with Bernie Taupin in attendance.

“I have no set pattern or definitive style. It is hard to conform when there are so many options”

BLUEPRINT - A Retrospective will include 16 contemporary and abstract works that reflect Taupin’s journey with influences from art history of the 1950’s – 1960’s. “I find blocks and oblongs of bright color effective, for me they express affection. In the same way their dark counterparts with their fragmented edges and torn middles spell disturbance and pain. In another way, I find urban chaos and atmospheric cities inspirational. The teaming vibrancy of legendary streets and exotic foreign parts makes for a great palate,” said Taupin, who is best known for his long-term song-writing collaboration with Elton John. Taupin creates in such a way that viewers are encouraged to interpret the works according to their personal thoughts and experiences.

"I feel that the artwork of Bernie Taupin definitively transcends the line that we use to delineate what makes an artist. The work is grounded in a formality that our eyes are accustomed to and yet seems to achieve a new plane of achievement. Originality and the use of color and space is a surprise for those unaware that Bernie has expanded his horizons to develop into such a fine artist," said Mark Borghi, Mark Borghi Fine Art.

ArtSouthampton features an one-artist exhibition of Taupin’s newest works entitled: Plain Brown Wrapper. The artworks will be on view at the Art Southampton Pavilion (60 Millstone Rd, Water Mill, NY 11976) from July 10th – July 13, 2015. An opening reception benefitting the Parrish Art Museum will be held July 9th from 6-9pm. The artist will be present.

Plain Brown Wrapper will highlight 12 contemporary and abstract pieces of Taupin’s newest works, all with a unique direction. “I have no set pattern or definitive style. It is hard to conform when there are so many options,” said Taupin about the Plain Brown Wrapper collection. Taupin is an artist of multiple dimensions and is creative and comfortable with a broad use of materials. In a new found language, his works may use combinations of acrylic, oil paint, wood stains, spray paint, found materials, twine, wax, stencils, fabric, nails, wood … often in the same composition.

Taupin first began frequenting art galleries and museums in the early 1970s as a way to seek solace from the chaos of New York City, and during his visits he found unexpected crossovers between the art and his own songwriting, particularly in Modernist paintings and sculptures at the Museum of Modern Art. Early in his career he found a particular kinship with artists Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko and Clifford Still, evidence of which can still be seen in his early paintings. Since he began this second art career, Taupin’s work has been exhibited nationally, including exhibitions in New York, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles, and his work can be found in significant private collections in Europe and throughout the U.S.
