ZTE Increases Smartphone Donation to The Carter Center for Election Monitoring in Underserved Communities

ZTE ZMAX aided field teams in executing a peaceful election and democratic transition for Tunisia during the country’s first democratic presidential election

RICHARDSON, Texas--()--ZTE USA, the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the U.S. and second largest in the no-contract market*, announced it will increase its original donation of 35 ZTE ZMAX smartphones to 100 in continued support of The Carter Center. The recently launched ZTE ZMAX was provided to The Carter Center field teams in Tunisia who played an integral role in facilitating the country’s first democratic presidential election peacefully. Since 2012, ZTE has increased its support of the organization and its mission to advance democracy, human rights, and economic opportunity in more than 80 countries.

“ZTE was founded to help improve the lives of underserved communities through communication technology and we remain committed to that mission”

“ZTE was founded to help improve the lives of underserved communities through communication technology and we remain committed to that mission,” said Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA. “The Carter Center upholds similar values and continues to inspire us with their work. We are always honored to be a part of progress in improving quality of life worldwide.”

The ZTE ZMAX was recently launched with T-Mobile at the end of 2014 and to date, more than one million devices have sold. The smartphone, best known for having one of the longest lasting batteries on the market, allowed field teams to monitor real-time election results and communicate for longer periods of time without worry.

“It has been our pleasure to work with and learn from ZTE about the types of technologies that not only help our teams but also the communities in which we serve,” said Former President Jimmy Carter, Founder of The Carter Center. “Following the successful Tunisia election, it is clear we can bridge our worlds to achieve the same goal of delivering technology resources to communities in need.”

Throughout the year, ZTE hosts community events across the United States in partnership with the NBA. Most recently, the company concluded the second annual Season of Giving program with the Houston Rockets and a phone drive for underprivileged children in the San Francisco Bay Area with the Golden State Warriors.
