Fuel Rewards® Program Helps U.S. Consumers Save More Than $500 Million on Fuel

National Loyalty Program Reaches Half-Billion-Dollar Milestone in Less Than Three Years With Cents-Off-Per-Gallon Savings for Consumers

DALLAS--()--American consumers have saved a massive $500 million on the price of fuel at participating Shell and other select fuel stations around the nation since the launch of the Fuel Rewards loyalty program in 2012.

“We’re confident this $500 million milestone is a sign of continued growth for our retail participants and for millions of American consumers who enjoy saving money on fuel so they can spend more on life.”

The half-billion-dollar milestone is a testament to the popularity of the Fuel Rewards program and consumers’ appetite for stretching their dollars by saving money at the pump. “The ability to save money regularly on a commodity product that most Americans need has proven to be both popular among consumers and a powerful tool to increase sales and improve customer retention for our merchants that issue Fuel Rewards,” said Brandon Logsdon, president and CEO of Excentus Corporation, which owns and operates the Fuel Rewards program.

Consumers embrace fuel-based rewards because they can easily earn cents-off-per-gallon at the pump based on every dollar they spend with participating companies. “Regardless of marketplace fluctuations in the price of gas, what consumer doesn’t enjoy saving money every time they fill up at the pump?” added Logsdon. Even at a time when gas prices are low, Fuel Rewards members are actually purchasing more fuel because of the increased buying power lower fuel prices provide and their ability to earn cents-off-per-gallon rewards each time they shop at participating merchants, restaurants and retailers nationwide. The rewards are redeemed at the pump at more than 11,000 Shell and other select fuel stations.

“In less than three years, we’ve proven the value of our loyalty program, which rewards consumers with a universal currency when they shop for everyday items at their favorite brands, retailers, restaurants and stores by helping them save money on a necessary commodity -- fuel,” Logsdon said. “We’re confident this $500 million milestone is a sign of continued growth for our retail participants and for millions of American consumers who enjoy saving money on fuel so they can spend more on life.”

The Fuel Rewards program is currently midway through a Winter Shopping promotion which offers members incentives for shopping with Olive Garden, Toys“R”Us and JCPenney while using a MasterCard linked to their Fuel Rewards account. Members can earn up to 40 cents off per gallon in sign-up and card-linking bonuses, plus 20 cents off per gallon for every $100 spent with any linked MasterCard at the participating merchants through March 1, 2015.

Launched across the United States in June 2012, the program now has 5 million members and reached its first $100 million milestone in February 2013. By November 2013, program members had saved over $250 million on fuel. The program’s national network of participants includes more than 10,000 restaurants, more than 1,400 retail locations and nearly 700 online merchants.
