STEM Premier Releases First Nation-Wide Ranking of STEM Students

CHARLESTON, S.C.--()--STEM Premier today announced the first ever national rankings of top science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) high school students. Students from all 50 states with STEM Premier profiles were ranked and rated based on an algorithm of over 30 profile metrics including achievements, experiences and more.

“STEM Premier offers the ability for cutting-edge businesses to deepen the bench of their talent base by developing relationships with the best and brightest upcoming STEM talent.”

With a projected 2.4 million job openings in STEM through 2018, according to the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce, and given the disproportionate influence of STEM in all sectors; the concern for STEM worker shortages in both STEM and non-STEM occupations remains central to the economic vitality of the U.S., touching virtually every industry.

“Acquisition of top-tier talent with the necessary critical thinking and problem solving skills acquired through a STEM education continues to be a top-level concern to C-levels and executives of every industry,” said John Welch, CEO of STEM Premier. “STEM Premier offers the ability for cutting-edge businesses to deepen the bench of their talent base by developing relationships with the best and brightest upcoming STEM talent.”

Students who possess the necessary STEM knowledge, talent and skills to excel at the college and university levels and throughout their careers, continue to face challenges in being discovered by universities and corporations seeking talent, especially in under-served and underrepresented areas. STEM Premier, a cradle-to-career solution that assists students in designing a career pathway, educators in recruiting top talent to their schools and employers in developing a stable, continuous talent pipeline, levels the playing field.

The online platform allows students ages 13 and up to build personal profiles showcasing their skills and talents so colleges, technical schools and companies can view the profiles and connect directly with students. The online service allows high school and college students to market themselves and optimize their “personal brand,” helping guide them toward their education and career goals.

The final selection of students represents 23 states and include: Presidential Service Award Winners, National Merit Scholars, Eagle Scouts, Members of 4-H, FBLA and DECA, members of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and National Society of High School Scholars. Students that made the “Top 50” also represented the acclaimed engineering curriculum Project Lead The Way (PLTW). Other top students included participants in competitions hosted by SkillsUSA, TSA, First Robotics, Siemens, Intel and VEX Robotics.
