Florida’s State Surgeon General John Armstrong and local residents joined District 4 Commissioner Francis Suarez on Saturday, December 13, for a Proclamation on behalf of the Mayor to announce the completion of part of the Shenandoah Park restoration.

"These efforts could not have been possible without Coca-Cola, who has been a valued partner of the City for nearly five years. Their ongoing involvement with the community demonstrates the positive impact we can have on our neighborhoods when industry, government and local citizens work together,” said Mayor Tomas Regalado. “I look forward to seeing the benefits these renovations and programs will have on the community."

Officials were joined by community leaders and local Coca-Cola representatives to unveil the updated area, which will provide a welcoming environment where families and friends can get moving together. In addition to the renovations, Coca-Cola provided a grant for new fitness programs and expansion to the Park’s tennis program.

“The City of Miami is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of our residents,” commented Commissioner Francis Suarez. “Working with companies who share our goals, such as Coca-Cola, helps provide access to fun and engaging activity spaces that get our communities moving.”

Shenandoah Park is one of the most widely-used parks in the City of Miami Parks and Recreation system, offering a variety of programs that positively impact the lives of youth, teens and adults. Renovations include installation of additional playground equipment, new outdoor workout equipment for teens and adults and upgraded tennis courts.

“Good things happen when neighbors come together. That’s why we’ve partnered with the City of Miami to make these renovations possible for the community,” said Melanie Jones, General Manager, South Florida Market Unit, Coca-Cola Refreshments. “We hope the new equipment and programs inspire everyone to get out, be active and most importantly – have fun doing it!”

Approximately 2,000 community members celebrated the Park’s restoration at the Coca-Cola Family Field Day, a free event featuring field day challenges, games, music and dancing.
